TKS Consultants is a Black-owned, Women-owned company devoted to providing comprehensive Professional Development services that embrace diversity, inclusion and equity practices. We serve managers, professionals, coaches and corporations, including Education, Business Services, Sports and Athletic Organizations, Media, Healthcare, Human Resources, Retail, and Legal Services.

Utilizing our Art of Cultural Transformation training model, we assist our clients with exploring potential underlying, unquestioned assumptions that interfere with inclusiveness. Our trainings and workshops advocate for and support internal thinking about how systemic inequities impact organization’s work, we train executives on how to employ systematic efforts to maintain and elevate the diversity of their staff/consulting team and we commit time and resources to educate organization staff and consultants about implicit biases and provide tools to strive to the surface, explore, and change organizational practices to ensure equity.

About the President

As a noted Educational, Cultural, and School Psychologist, Educational Administrator, Author, Lecturer, and Life Coach, Dr. Tanis King Starck has over 20 years of proven leadership in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and professional development training in both the private and public sectors.

A native of Oakland, CA, Dr. King Starck, is a woman of passion, vision, and purpose. Dedicated to facilitating professional development training, and workshops in Cultural Competency, Humility, Social Justice and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Dr. King Starck promotes the “Art of Cultural Transformation” through her use of humor and straight talk to deliver her consistent message of social justice, inclusion, cultural consciousness, and racial equality. Her work has not only been recognized in California by colleges and universities and the California State Assembly, she has also been sought out as a subject matter expert for corporations and institutions in New Jersey, Washington, DC, New Orleans, LA, and Sao Paulo and Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.

As the Founding President/CEO of TKS Consultants, LLC, and the Cultural Proficiency Institute, her “Art of Cultural Transformation” Podcasts, and online trainings, workbooks, and courses continue to spread the message that Cultural Transformation carves an entirely new path for inclusive and equitable thinking that increases one’s cultural competency.

Meet Our Team

Phillip Graham, Ph.D.

Dr. Philip Graham is a psychotherapist for Full Circle Mental Health Services and Howard University. In addition, Dr. Graham is a co-host for Equilibrium Podcast- a podcast intended to encourage young Black men to seek therapy and provide them with helpful tools to cope with life stressors. Dr. Graham is the creative Director for Capture Create Media & Director of Photography.

Freddie Sanchez, Ph.D.

Dr. Sanchez is a mentor, researcher, educator, administrator and a student affairs practitioner in higher education. He has served in various private and public 4-year higher education institutions in Southern California as a student affairs professional. He taught in the SDSU Certificate in Cultural Competency Certificate program and has over 12 years of experience in racial justice, equity and inclusion work. Born and raised in South Los Angeles, California to Mexican immigrant parents, is a first-generation scholar with a Ph.D. from the Joint Claremont Graduate University & San Diego State University program. He trains on equity issues in higher education, cultural competency and cultural humility, employee understanding of cultural differences and student engagement. He serves as the Program Manager for TKS Consultants and looks forward to working with you through your transformational journey.

Freddie Sanchez, Ph.D.

Sammie Scales, Ph.D.

Dr. Sammie Scales was born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi. He served in the US Navy. Dr. Scales is a proud father, educator, activist and a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He earned two AA’s from San Diego City College, BA (English) and MA in English with a focus in children’s Literature from SDSU. am a recent grad from the joint doctoral program (JDP) at SDSU & Claremont Graduate University (CGU) with a PhD in Education. Dr. Scales have 10 years experience in education with San Diego Unified School District. Most recently He have worked at San Diego City college in the Humanities Dept. teaching History from a Black Perspective & the History of Black Music in addition, to teaching English. Dr. Scales professional goal is to work at a college as a Diversity/Equity & Inclusion Director/Officer. Dr. Scales likes to spend time volunteering at the church he attends tutoring kids, adults and anyone that wants to learn. Also, Dr. Scales enjoys making bag lunches for the less fortunate in downtown San Diego. He none-the-less treasures spending quality time with is family and friends. Dr. Scales personal motto is “to whom much is given, much is required”.

Terry Sivers

Mr. Sivers is completing his Ph.D. in Education and second MA in Cultural Studies. Mr. Sivers research focuses on the development of theory that seeks to problematize the understanding of ourselves and its relationship to others. Mr. Sivers holds an MS in Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling and a BA in Africana Studies. Mr. Sivers is an adjunct counselor and professor.

Terry Sivers

Ryan Sutton, Ph.D.

Dr. Sutton received his bachelor of science from Xavier University of Louisiana in Psychology with a minor in African American Studies. Dr. Sutton’s Master’s and Doctoral degrees are from Howard University in Counseling Psychology. Dr. Sutton completed his APA-accredited internship at DC Superior Courts in Washington, D.C. and now a professor and director at The University of Texas at Austin.
